This evening saw the official announcement that Danny Wilson has finally secured a transfer to Liverpool in principle after all the summer speculation. The deal in principle is said to be for the region of £2million up front, rising depending on appearances and such like to around £5million.
Danny had been due to fly out this evening with the rest of the team to Australia to start their pre-season programme. Danny indicated earlier this year that he wished to move on to a new challenge and turned down a contract renewal for Rangers. He had shown promise last season when he stepped into the breach to take his place in defence while Bougherra was injured, and also when he was away on international duty with Algeria.
Martin Bain indicated that Liverpool had been keen to sign the young lad and given that he wanted to go too it was the best for everyone all round. Bain also intimated that given the recent departures from the first team recently, Rangers would be looking to strengthen the first team squad.
Bain told rangers.co.uk “Our efforts remain focused on doing that during this transfer window.
“We have been active in that regard with the resources that we have and we do recognise that we have to add to a squad that is light in numbers.”
Lets hope we see some addition to the squad very soon as most Rangers fans are starting to feel a little apprehensive at the lack of signings so far.

We will not be fored to sell Wilson, Bougie or any of our stars!.. Are you joking, it is more a case of who is next..Miller to newcastle next!!…………Oh how the mighty fall…. Winning the 2011 title? I would be more concerned with where below that we will finish…At this rate 3rd is being optimistic!!!
Has wATTIE SMITH GOT A MARKET VALUE? I RECKON HE IS NEXT THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING. NOT MUCH TO BOUCE ABOUT NEXT SEASON
I’m glad he’s gone !!! He clearly had no loyalty to the club that gave him the chance to start his career. No surprise though, he’s a celtic fan. He went to St Margerets academy in Livingston. We got the same cash we got for an established first team regualar in Kevin Thomson and Wilson has only just came into the team be it as cover. We’ve scored a good deal, especially if the fee rises to £5m later down the line.
He didn’t want to play for us so ta ta !!!! I said the same about Fleck when he stalled on a new deal, if the loyalty was not there and he thought he was bigger than Rangers then he knew where the door was ……. Just aswell for him he seen sense and realised he has a long way to go before he holds any club to ranson never mind Rangers !!!!!
havent seen anywhere mention that its £2M upfront – Bains quote was £2M guaranteed with the chance to reach £5M depending on appearances. Nowadays for any club (esp. Liverpool considering their financial woes) its unlikely that the full £2M will be paid upfront – more likely to be in 2 or 3 instalments, so with Walter getting approx 40% of any transfer revenue, thats approximately £280K in his warchest before August 31st – not as good a deal as is being painted to be honest.
HLS you’re right, as far as im aware we’re still owed money from previous deals such as Hutton and Cuellar. Rooney for example was paid over three years to Everton, which was a massive fee. Ronaldo’s deal to Real was split over years too, they all are, hence why we often hear stories of clubs being unhappy at other clubs for not coughing up.
Though when we sold Cuellar, Smith was allocated the money from the deal and he spent a packet, but we were not seeing all of that like you say for quite a while.
Many think “right, thats us got £4m from those two signings” – no, we’ve not, sadly.
Plenty of time to go before the window ends – Smith mentioned he hoped to take a couple of trialists to Oz but couldn’t get it arranged in time, so might be interesting to see what happens when they return. Never know, might have his eyes on a player or two over there.
its a disgrace the way rangers are just selling player after player from an already small squad which just managed to cope last season, imagine we get lots of injuries this season and even less players to come in. its a joke! been crying out for a left back ever since smith came back we have a central defender playing there who is over 30 i think and a 40 year old in the defense. i think weir had his best season last year and should have left i get the feeling he is not going to be as good as he was last year so i dont know why people keep going on about the youth, especially after selling wilson although if he wants to go let him good ridance. deffo need a left back and a central defender. kevin thomson was rubbish anyway. we need a winger and a playmaker and a goalscorer yet what is smith doing? selling rather than bringing more in. who on earth eagles? he will be yet another smith flop i bet. no chance we will win the league next year without as i said a solid defender, left back, left winger, playmaker in the middle and a goalscorer replacement for boyd, really think smith has the eye for players to get all of those?? fat chance, rememebr boli, salenko, thern, stensas, van vossen etc also he seems to think boring average unskilled players are what is best ie those just mentioned, mcculloch, thomson, weir, papac, etc
