To raise funds to put towards the purchase of trees at the Margaret Ferguson Trees for Life Grove, one of the members of our Rangers forum, Rossco, has donated a replica home Rangers shirt 09/10 season signed by Algerian defender Madjid Bougherra to put to a silent auction.
Money raised from the silent auction will be put towards purchasing trees in the Margaret Ferguson Trees for Life Grove, which was set up as a lasting tribute to those who lost their lives in the 1971 Ibrox disaster. Founder Colin Shearer sent us this message recently to let other Rangers fans know about the variety of initiatives in place to remember those who lost their lives at the disasters.
“My name is Colin Shearer and I write this as a Rangers fan inspired by the tributes the fans from Fife did recently for the 5 Markinch Lads who never returned from Ibrox on 2/1/1971.
“As the 40th Anniversary of the Ibrox Disaster approaches I feel this is our chance to remember those 66 souls who never came home and let their families know we still care and not just once a year on 2nd January each year.
“I have started an Absent Friends Memorial Grove at Treesforlife.org.uk which is a Scottish Charity that is aiming to restore the Caledonian Forest!
“This can be found at http://www.treesforlife.org.uk/groves/grovepage.php?id=1246 . This effort will see trees planted from the fund for the 66 victims and those from the 1961 and 1902 tragedies at Ibrox. The idea is similar to the brick panels at Ibrox and trees can be dedicated for any occasion or person in your life or even your favourite Ranger!”
To enter the silent auction, simply login to our Rangers forum or if you’ve not registered already, it takes two minutes to sign up. Then check out the silent auction thread for more information, and send your bids by personal message to Rossco or Stephstar.
If your bid is outbid you will be informed but not told how much by.
Bidding ends at 21:00 GMT on 30th July 2010, so sign up and enter the auction or visit Trees For Life and buy your very own tree in the Margaret Ferguson Trees For Life Grove!
