As mentioned on DoTheBouncy News earlier today, Burnley winger Chris Eagles was hotly tipped to sign for Rangers as the first cash signing in two years since Maurice Edu signed from Toronto FC. However, Eagles could not agree personal terms with Rangers and remains with Burnley.
The winger’s wage demands were too high as mentioned by Rangers’ Chief Executive Martin Bain tonight on rangers.co.uk. Bain said:
“Yesterday, we agreed a fee with Burnley for winger Chris Eagles and he visited Ibrox and Murray Park, but his wage demands were such that they would not be met by the Club.
“It is disappointing we were not able to agree terms with the player, who received a good offer, and we will now look elsewhere.
“I have stated already that we recognise the squad requires fresh faces but the transfer window closes in August and we will take our time to decide on the best way of utilising the resources we have.”
Bain also confirmed that midfielder Kevin Thomson will complete his switch to Gordon Strachan’s Middlesbrough tomorrow; despite claims in the media today the player was looking for a bumper pay off from Rangers before agreeing to a move.
“Subject to final paperwork Kevin Thomson will sign for Middlesbrough tomorrow.”
